Because I love to watch Rock of Love Bus and, thanks to Rich's recaps over on Four Four, the Real World: Brooklyn, I must be the target demo for this ad and have been seeing it just way, way too many times recently. Every single time it comes on my roommate and I both cringe, curse ourselves for not just waiting to watch the shows until once they've already been DVRed and then immediately find something better to do to occupy those two minutes. Seriously, this ad make feel really gross. It's so blatantly saying, "hey ladies, the male gaze is real, the patriarchy is alive and well and so you need to be have a cute little body and all the sexy bedroom moves to match if you want to feel at all good about yourself." Don't get me wrong, I am all for women embracing their own sexuality and definitely think that women (and men) need to take their personal health pretty seriously, however, this exercise routine just seems to be so much about the man and not at all about the woman and making her feel good in her own body regardless of what a man, or anyone else for that matter, thinks. I mean, they encourage you to buy your own stripper pole and install it in your home. That isn't necessarily empowering, if you ask me. It seems more to be pushing back against feminism and saying, "ladies, if you have to work out to be attractive, you might as well also learn some good foreplay, too." Plus, all those women just look a little ridiculous to me. Ugh, I just hate it. That is all.

Ad Sense
The Super Bowl is this weekend, and while I don't really care about either team, I do care about the festivities that surround the game/event, including the viewing of the most expensive advertisements ever. There have been some real gems in the past, but I am certainly hoping that Flirty Girl Fitness doesn't shell out the big bucks to air this two minute (yes, two whole excruciating minutes) spot:

I think having your own stripper pole can be very empowering. Just sayin....
Fair enough, Tommy, and I think you're right. It CAN be empowering, I just don't think that the way this ad is pitching them is necessarily doing that. Especially when it airs right in the middle of a show that proves why strippers have the bad rap they do: they do nothing but get completely wasted and take shots out of each others' vaginas. (Yes, that actually happened on Rock of Love Bus).
But, I'm glad to see you're not just wasting time on FU Penguin, CNN or Huffinton Post and are actually reading my blog!
